How can this funding tool within SciVal Experts help my institution achieve award success?

By automatically matching opportunities from SciVal Funding to researchers in SciVal Experts, this tool will provide your faculty with automated, targeted recommendations for funding opportunities and meaningful suggestions regarding potential collaborators for specific funding programs. Administrators, managers and research development professionals can distribute relevant funding opportunities to faculty, and form effective research teams. They can also ensure researchers don’t miss the right funding opportunities by keeping track of faculty members’ interest in the recommendations.

How many recommendations are provided to each researcher and how often are the recommendations updated?

There are no limitations on the number of recommendations provided to an individual researcher. By default, the tool will display all of the opportunities available to each faculty member. The recommendations are updated weekly.

Can researchers modify their Fingerprints within this tool to tailor the funding opportunities they are recommended? Would the changes affect their Fingerprints within SciVal Experts?

The funding opportunities proposed to each researcher are based on their unique research Fingerprint in SciVal Experts. Researchers can adjust the weight of the concepts in their Fingerprint to influence the funding opportunities they are recommended. A higher weight will yield more opportunities associated with that concept. Researchers can also add concepts to their Fingerprint in order to further refine their recommendations. All changes made to researchers’ Fingerprints will only affect their recommended funding opportunities; their Fingerprints in SciVal Experts will remain unchanged.

Researchers can also select their subject areas of interest, preferred funding opportunity type, academic rank and degree to tailor their recommendations. Users can adjust the similarity threshold to control the relevancy of the recommendations.

What are the requirements for my institution to access this tool?

This tool is available to institutions with access to both SciVal Experts and SciVal Funding. Your organization simply provides the list of researchers in its SciVal Experts application as well as their institutional email addresses. This data is used solely to establish the logins for the researchers.

How long does it take to implement this tool within SciVal Experts?

This tool can be activated in your institution’s SciVal Experts application within 10 business days after the list of researchers and email addresses is provided.

How does this tool compare to SciVal Funding?

This new tool within SciVal Experts automatically provides researchers and administrators with an abbreviated list of targeted recommendations for funding opportunities and potential collaborators with absolutely no action required by the user. SciVal Funding, on the other hand, gives researchers and administrators access to the full breadth of funding opportunities and awarded grants available in the SciVal Funding database. Both solutions will help researchers and administrators maximize their chances for award success.
